House on the Bay
Long Beach Island, NJ
OZ Collaborative worked closely with Philly Office Retail’s team, including Bancroft Green, to design an energy efficient, complex conversion of auxiliary buildings to this neighborhood church into high-end condos. The congregation retained control and use of the 19th century sanctuary until recently. The design created nineteen condominium apartments, with four of these units in a new penthouse atop the original structure. The project affords incredible views of picturesque downtown Mt. Airy.
Project amenities include a new full-service elevator, roof decks and pilothouse access for the penthouse units, indoor/outdoor sunrooms, balconies, patios, and a covered carport structure with a green roof. A major challenge was providing accessibility for fourteen of the units, despite twelve different floor levels in the building. OZC has currently been commissioned to design a reuse of the sanctuary space as a vibrant theater for Lantern Theater Company
