The 1,600 square foot, 25-seat restaurant in University City is the second fit-out our team has done for Hai Street. The first location opened last year on 18th and Ludlow Streets. The design draws inspiration from the hexagon packaging used for the unique Japanese burritos along with traditional bamboo sushi rolling mats. The three-color ceramic hexagon tiles anchor the counter and set the tone for the contemporary, yet warm palette of materials. The large faceted wall with over-scaled bamboo wallpaper sets off the perforated stainless steel hexagon light shades, custom designed by our studio and fabricated by a local metalwork shop.

Also catching the shadows and play of light is a feature wall of recycled oak wood paneling. The elegant and sophisticated interior sports bamboo plywood paddles that are hot-iron branded with Japanese characters spelling the word “fresh”. On the opposite wall, colorful racing stripes draw you into the center of the space.
